HEY GUYS AND GALS

This is a combined 3 hunts totalling 8 hrs.

Tried the fields today.. 2 of them and both frozen solid.... so went to plan "B" and investigated a new beach.

Started off slow then Ed hit a musket ball which I thought was odd for this location..... then I started coming across the BIG LEAD SCUD MISSILES.

They are big and heavy..... I wouldn,t want to be the one shooting them off my shoulder. Ed picked up 12 of them today. Dunno why there was so many of these big caliber bullets there.
And the spot had been hunted within the last couple days also...there was holes dug everywhere.

ED found 1 old worn copper and I had 3.... only 1 that had any detail is the 1859 Canadian ONE CENT... looks like it has the BIG 9. 1 year off the key date of first mint.
Too bad the ink wells top is missing ....think this beach may be in need of a return trip.

Had 2 buttons but not from this new beach....one pewter...it has writing on the back ...any ideas ??

What kinda gun would these big bullets come from ?

You scared of a snow storm ???? Lol...don,t blame ya...the weather is absolutely dreadfull..... Went to New Minas at 11 am today..raining and plus 2......stayed there til 5:30....roads were a mess all the way home...snow / sleet and slush and a gale outta the northeast !!!!! Do the measuring tomo when you go out for your shovel to clear the driveway !!! :tongue3:
Saw more accidents this morning than I saw all winter. Roads were glare ice and strong winds. Were having some flooding issues already here. I would cut off one toe for some sunshine and thawed ground. But not the big toe or the little one! Any of the middle ones in a heartbeat. That's how disgusted I am with this winter and this weather :-(

We usually find a few different sized musket balls on our sites, larger ones are typically English bore and the smaller ones are French bore, or Minie ball sized; so it makes sense to me that the conical bullet is an Enfield and the musket ball you have shown is if French origin

Just found a good pic of the enfield 57 bullet.....looks correct as you first said.

I have found 3 different size musket balls here..and some very small ones...assuming buckshot.

Eyes can play tricks, those "smooth" bullets are indeed 57 cal, they may look bigger due to also being longer ? I don't know, but I did work in a machine shop for 20 years, have verniers, and micrometers, etc.

These long bullets are 57 cal. with a BIG musket ball beside them which doesn't really "look" any bigger, but it is. again eyes play tricks, measuring tools don't.

The English balls are much bigger even they harldy "appear" so

Thanks AQUA, that is actually a very rare type of micrometer with a range of 0-2 inch with moveable anvil. Brown & Sharp made in RI, USA. I bought it while I was in school many, many years ago.

You can get a vernier at canadian tire for about 20 bucks, and will come in handy many times over. I actually don't like the digital type, the battery is always dead, best to learn to read the normal type anyway.
