It all started with the fact tat I woke up at 3am and felt the urge of going on a hunt before work. So I went down to my beach. After a whole lot of coins the time went by and I was ready to go back home to et ready for work. So i decided to start walking with a big sweep,...so if i hit anything (hardly a chance, right?) I could dig some more on the way. The I had a weird signal. short one way and real long the other. I almost didn't dig it because I was sure it was another bolt. I dug it and it was.............. good thing i checked the hole again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I found a beautiful 18K Sapphire Ring!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Does anybody have any experience with the Hallmarks? As far as I can tell it's 18K from the Birmingham area. Is that right? Wow what a morning!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Hey again Aleman.Excellent photographs, you have to tell me what camera you use.I got my wife into the act.Now she is a certified Goldsmith that has spent the last 19 years repairing all kinds of gold jewellery.Additional facts she has put in that I havent already mentioned.First the diamonds are rose cut diamonds, they are cut flat on the back which is why the setting is not open on the back where the diamonds are.If the diamonds fall out of these older rings they are often replaced with halfed seed pearls.Rose cut diamonds are not made anymore other then by special order to repair vintage jewellery and havent been since the early 1900`s.There are modern rings being made in that style but they dont have rose cut diamonds and old cut sapphires. The modern rings are being made in the states and dont bear English hallmarks.
Congratulations brother its the find of a lifetime :o ;D

Hello again,
I'm using a Canon PowerShot SD400. I think it's of the market now, but they have one that is the same camera but a bigger display. It aint to expensive. I belive I paid 400 US with a 512MB MemoryCard. Makes very nice pictures for a snapshot camera. I use it in the Makro setting with a 2 second timer so I dont shake the camera when i push the button. Thank you very much for everything!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

That was a a lot of good help. I guess without that I would have belived anything.I dont now ;D ;D ;D ;D thanks a lot aleman

Excellent find you have there. Do have any ideal what size the ring is?. Will you be keeping the
the ring?. It's looks like a ring my ancestor had when the were on there Spanish Galleons conquering the world.

Beautiful ring! The stones look real clear. No doubt 18kt. If you do ever find a gold plated or overlay, you will know it with out a question. The ring will be black in spots or pealing In general it will look like crap. Gold looks like yours no matter how long it was in the water.Especialy 18kt. Great job.

Wow thats a beauty. The ring is definately assyed in Birmingham and is 18kt gold.As for all the date opinions I believe 1900 is accurate. The lower case A was used in Birmingham in 1900 - 1875 and 1798.The shield shape can not always be trusted especially the first year of its change. In 1900 the shield does change to square on top and points on the bottom but in 1899 it was a square shield. This was common for hallmarks to use that last shield design as long as the right letter style was used. Not only that but they are old cut stones which was the way it was done back then.So it cant be 2000.
So you have a fabulous 18kt diamond sapphire ring from 1900.Excellent
The other thing to note is early stones are usually far better quality and worth more then modern stones of equal size.My wife is a certified goldsmith and I have been selling antique jewellery for over 26 years, its the real deal.
WTG ;D ;D ;D

This is correct information !! Truely wonderful ring !!

Ya know Ale, I have been looking at this damn ring for half a month now.

I AM STILL DROOLING!!!!!

While I'm at it I might as well remind those who are posting in the thread that asks about how long it takes to pay for the detector.

Here is the thread: http://forum.treasurenet.com/index.php/topic,79947.0.html

For you it took one well placed swing of the coil!!

Congrats on that smokin hot find!!!
