Update... we selected the winners.
See below for list and instructions.
Thanks
Doc

Long story made short...

I think it will be fun.

We have some cons from one of our ops.
The cons have a fair amount of fine gold. Lots of 50 - 100 - 150 and even 200 mesh gold.
However, I don't feel comfortable selling them with our normal cons which usually have some chunkier gold as well.
So....... I figured I would give away some of them here.
I figure a scoop / maybe around a pound per person.
GREAT practice for panning.
We will use a random number generator to choose the winners. RANDOM.ORG - True Random Number Service

Here's what I came up with.
I created an email address just for this: [email protected]

Send an email there with your board user name, that's it.
(Please don't PM me here, only use that email.)
If you win, I'll send you an email back asking for your shipping address.
We'll pay the shipping and all.
If you want you can come back and post some pics of the gold.

Rules...
Only one email per user. If you send more than one... you're out. :)
We can only ship them to US based customers in the lower 48.
We'll pick 10 winners.

Good Luck
Doc

We'll do the drawing in about a week.

Hey Doc!
Any thoughts on selling some of those coffee cons, even if you are calling them C-? They sound like challenging cons, and I might not be the only one who likes to stare a challenge in the face! Just a thought:)

JB.

We only sell the "B" and above. They have a good amount of fines as well.
We use the C for testing.

Well that was an interesting and enjoyable mornings worth of panning. The materials were/are a LOT different than the cons I get out of my sluice out here in AridZona. I know...1200 miles is going to make a bit of difference in the geology, but I wasn't expecting there to be so little magnetic sands. Kind of a nice change not having to fight it though. I guess I'll be the first to give my score on the score from Doc.

Gold.... A little over a grains worth including a couple of "almost pickers". Lots of VERY fine stuff as Doc said but not as fine as Nome Flour and much easier to pan IMHO.

Other finds in the bag...

1 thumbnail sized green stone that I don't recognize. Some type of gem and not just a green rock. Any ideas Doc?

2 pieces of pyrite that are about thumbnail size. (Almost had me going till I looked closer at them. Been awhile since I've had pyrite in my pan)

Lots of quartz in various forms including crystal, smoky, white and rose.

Some very nice garnets but none large enough to cut and polish up for some jewelry.

One very strange "rock" that looked like a small piece of coal in the pan but disintegrated into almost like ink when I tried to pick it up. Again... Any idea on what it was Doc?

Last but not least.. three pieces of 00 buckshot that were well oxidized. (Don't ever let people say that Doc's not doing his part to get lead out of the streams and rivers of Georgia!)

So after having moved out of Georgia a year ago I get my first Georgia gold. Seven years there and I never once got a chance to go out prospecting. Something wrong with that! Oh yeahhhh!!! It was that work thing that we all hate!

I'll try getting a pic of the gold but all I've got is my POS phone camera for digital.

Thank you yet again Doc! Soon as I can get the funds cleared with the boss I'll be ordering some mats.

GI

Golden, not sure if this helps identify the green stone, but it's worth a shot.

Hey look my custom coffee blend from Gold Hog arrived! No wonder I feel all hyped up ;-) <img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=911630"/>

Here's first pass thru the pan. -50 on one side, plus 50 on other. 3 pieces of shot and two short lengths of wire gold in between.

<img src="http://www.treasurenet.com/forums/attachment.php?attachmentid=911712"/>

Great fun! Way diff material then in my neck of the woods.

What's your secret for separating that garnet sand?

Received mine but will have to report back later. Going to put it in the wife's Christmas stocking. She grew up in Northern Vermont and had property on a gold bearing stream but it's been many years since she's done any panning. It will be fun.

I use a classifier to separate the material smaller than 50 mesh and then use Doc's shake and tap method to dance the fine gold out of the garnet sand. Also, I find the 20-50 mesh material is easier to pan with the larger rocks AND the -50 material removed. Give this a try!

First panning results are in. I've got my cons saved and will classify for running on my miller table after Christmas. Thanks again Doc. My son and I had a great time together.

Found the time to process my cons today. Was awesome to have material to clean and not have to leave the house! My big panning tub is full of ice and a bit to cold to toy with so took a different approach and classified it down in the kitchen sink lol set up the blue bowl in the kitchen and let it rip! Was nice to stay warm and this way I could enjoy a cold brew without chilling the bones at the same time! Was a real treat to get to work with some material other than the norm, it seemed to be some sort super quartzy decomposed granite gravel and sands, funny because it's a lot like the ground were I live in gold country CA. I kept the cons that the blue bowl processed to pan down later for piece of mind. I'm quite impressed the hog mats catch gold this fine and would like gut my a52 and run hog mat for low flow situations. Lucky for me I can go pick some up at the local hardware store. Must say for C- material it was A+ fun! Thanks a bunch doc! image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg image.jpg

Hey, can you send me your cons, I think you missed some gold? (Just kidding but seriously the pic looks like less than I got so keep at it!)

One more pic with two additions: picker in lower right which was out of frame in my original shot and the colors next to the picker are what I found in my second, more careful pass thru the material. Total weight 1.2 grains :). Thanks again Doc, very generous of you and a cool demonstration of how the really fine gold is "grabbed" by your mats! image-1718123603.jpg

I like that "army green" pan / plate or whatever it is you shot on.
Might have to find that color to shoot some gold.
Looks nice on it.

You have a sharp eye! That is a ceramic soap dish from Walmart ($2). I use it for the final cleaning of my gold too...either a Georgia Swirl or tapping the gold to one side and then washing a tablespoon of water back and forth like a mini gold pan to move the very last bits of sand away from the gold so it's easy to suck out.

Yay for you Kevin! Congratulations now you can say you found a picker!:notworthy: When you add it to your months finds don't forget to mention you found it in your mail box. Did you happen to stop and think that the bags of cons are most likely not all equal with a measured amount of gold? And maybe you got a scoop full from the bottom of the bucket? I probably did miss a speck or two as I'm more experienced with coarse gold in my pan then I am with dust, I would call that a good problem to have in my book.

...that IS a good problem to have, congrats! (And who can say, maybe I got the "hot bag" of the group...I AM a lucky guy after all, very lucky as I see it!)
