My first really GOOD find!! In one hole I found 5 loose nickels (2)1908, (1)1909 and (2)1911. About 2 feet away I got another hit. I dug that spot and around 5" deep I pulled this old tea cup or something up that had coins in it! After the pictures, I removed the coins. There were 7 more nickels! The oldest one being the nicest....an 1883. I also found (2) 1869 Indian Head Pennies in the same field. The picture is of the nicer one of the two.

A case of beginners luck! It must have bounced all over the meter!!

My guess is that any experienced metal detectorist would have ignored a signal like that.

By the condition of those nickels I would guess you were searching a homesite of a house torn down less than a month ago! Even a 1998 Jefferson nickel doesnt come out of the ground looking like that!

Congrats!

Wow! Those old tin cups (I've got a modern-day version from 'Mule Day' in Spring Hill, TN) were good for more than just hanging next to the well!!

That's an outstanding cache hit of 12 nickels. I had an '05 V-nickel when I was a kid and, um, spent it.

And not one but 2 1869 Indian Heads?

I guess I don't have to tell you it was a great find, as 100 people have already done so, plus you've made the Banner!

So I'll just nag you instead. GO BACK THERE, SON! GIT SOME MO'..

Congrats on your cache, finding nickels that come out of the ground looking that great is rare, so enjoy it!! The next one may be an ugly rust color ;D!! If you dig all signals you can find the goodies!! I think the last time I found 12 "V" nickels on the same day was when I found a jar of nickels I'd misplaced!! Looks to be a "banner" post!! Hope to see more soon!!
