I scored a new permission on saturday. Wandered around a bit and then got a deep squeeker around the copper penny range and i was surprised to pull out a pounded and cut spanish silver. Some type of cob. I think it says 69 where the date usually is. Cant tell the denomination and i gave it to the resident because he sometimes acts as a pirate. These pics were all i could get. It was pretty thick so im thinking more then a 2 reale. What do you guys think?

I also picked up a 1941 washington while i was there but whoop dee do

Great find. Too bad you "lost" it after you found it. How much does it weigh?

I donated it to the property owner. Hes an actor and plays a pirate sometimes, so i figured it would be fitting to let him keep it. I can go visit it any time id like though. I will have to get back there with my jewelry scale and get ya'll a weight.

Hey Crusader!

Im not really sure. This was only the second hammered spanish ive found. It seems like the denomination is chipped off and it kind of looks like a straight line across the top. Also the cross is set rather low on the back making me think there was more to this coin at one time? Please correct me if im wrong. Id hate to be lying to the owners. In addition to getting the weight, i will also bring a micrometer to determine the thickness next time im there.

It's an amazing find! You should've kept it cause you rarely find those coins!

It looks like an off-centre poor strike & the weight would narrow down the clipping option/damage. I think it wasn't clipped just an odd shape.

Congrats. That would be like me giving a Civil War actor, a period hammered coin, I would do this kind of 'sacrifice' as they have a real interest. Although I've yet to get a 'cob' so they would have to wrestle that one off me, unless I then found a double!

It's a 'pillars and waves' cob coin; probably from the mint at Potosi, Bolivia (back in the day from the Viceroyalty of Peru. (P) at the 3 o'clock position.

Weight will determine it's denomination; 27.468 grams is the 'standard' for an 8 reales coin; proportionately less for lesser values (4,2,1, and 1/2)
Don........

At first i was confused because there werent any hammered coins when our civil war took place......but your civil war on the other side of the pond is another story! And yes, i already got a 1R 1656 Cob last year, so i didnt mind making this guys eyes light up like i knew mine did last year.
