Yes I found in one of my honey holes....never found a piece that size at that site. I've pulled over 50 points out of that spot in the last 4 months along with really nice scrapers and hammer stonestomclark said:I am not a knapper but that size is perfect for a good sized point or knife. Looks like he gave up because of the stack(s) and the way it was going (not his way).
OK, did you find it on a worksite/chippin site with lots of chips around? I have found many, many of them, unfinished at different "stages" of reduction.
I believe a celt should have a function, either an axe, hoe or preform pendant and not just a similar shape ... Preforms are longer, wider and thicker than the finished product. 1st pic, right side, middle, looks like he drove off too much with that flake and it ends with a stack bump, that alone could cause it to be discarded or put down for use later. It would work great to scrape roots and bark.
I don't call this a celt, it's fat on the "bit" end.

I found these over the weekend. The first is a softer easer stone to work with. I think it is a flaked Celt bit.

In my hand on the far left is a piece like you found.( I think) harder stone, larger flakes. I don't have a better pic right now .

These have plow damage.

People have told me time and time again, "toss that thing" . I'm glad to see that if mother nature made these pieces, she mass produced them. The spotted piece is uniface, correct? It's a scraper of sorts, I have one or two of those too. I think NC is unique, and unless one spends a lot of time here, they will bypass a lot of stuff. I'm sure you have noticed "rocks" of certain styles keep showing up, to the point of they must be something. The Tator Rock, I can't tell by pic. Many of them are used. If it is kidney shaped, it is for sure!
