This last month I have drove by the fair grounds by my house. I have two defferent guys detecting I figure I would stop back and talk to them on my way back. Both times it has been least then a hour and when I return back they are gone. I detect this fair ground also and still make decent finds.
when I go out I normally detect any where from 4 to 6 hours. So my question to you how long do you detect in a area before you leave. I would like to find someone to detect with. This way I would have company and someone to help cut the expenses down.

Sometimes I am out for 8 hours a day on the weekends. If I get out on a weeknight I hunt for about 2 hours.

I am not very patient when I am checking out a park or school. If I have not found anything in 15 minutes, I am gone to another site. Where do you live at in Ohio?

I normally detect during inclement weather or a specific site, only detectable on Sunday.
This limits my infield time.
But, I allow a full 8hrs at minimum per outing.
I do have others that occasionally accompany me, but I usually help them. This inhibits my finds.
Hunting with others on a social aspect is cool, but when I wanna go the distance, it's alone.

If I hunt an area for 30 min or so, and do not find "indicative target ratios" that show me there's hope of nice early coins, then I bail. I mean, .. doh ... why hunt for clad ? If I'm at beach erosion, then any concentrations of target placements on the wet (especially if it's heavier-targets) cause me to continue.

Hello mlayers,

I try to hunt every weekend day for at least 8 - 10 hours, starting at 5:00/6:00 AM, this may or may not be the same site. During the week I try to get out 2 - 3 times for a few hours in the evening (beach, schools and/or parks). There are times when family commitments and household chores put a damper on my days and time.

Regards,

I leave my phone in the van most of the time. It's close by if I need it.
I know, I know, but I have two rugrats at home I have to worry about constantly.

4 or 5 hours is about the average for me. I think I could go longer if I were finding silver...I just have not had much luck with that yet... I am sure there will be some more on my next hunt.... fingers and toes crossed :)

I average nearly two hours, but some can be as short as a few minutes, some can be a full day, I have inexpensive machines that don't require me to be out with them to be operating in the hundred and sweaty in the shade to justify their ownership. I really like the freedom of going when I feel like, how I feel like doing it. I think I would pressure myself to produce more if I had almost any pricier equipment. When I feel like my research capabilities outweigh my returns, I'll consider upgrading. Then, I'll probably feel obligated to up the rest of my game,(including going out for longer hunts) I want to get better at this, but I'm slowly gaining on the entire process. From conversation to excavation, it gets better every year.

Beaches around 5 hours unless people start rolling in early. Dirt fishing depends if I'm having any luck with finding anything old which could be anywhere from 30 minutes to 6 hours (talking parks or empty lots). If I were to be somewhere where oldies kept flowing I'd detect till my arm falls off:laughing7:

three to four hours is about it for me. I say I am going to do eight hours but I usually have dug my limit on pull tabs long before that

2-4 hours is all I want to hunt usually. I went on a paid hunt where we hunted from 7-6pm 3 days straight in 90 plus degree heat and high humidity. It was brutal and I would have heat stroked without the Camelback I just bought.
In the winter I like to hunt a saltwater beach 6-8 hours when it's cool and there's no one in the way.

I'm primarily a beach hunter so hunt usually minimum 4 hours on short hunts, if I make long road trip then it's longer 8-12 hours then... All bets off when there is lighting in the area.
