Some but not all that much as CAVITATION begins and around and around you go and no mo' water goes. BUT more hp allows you to run longer hose as the extra muscle lets ya keep that pump a pumpn' at that sweet spot too. But downhill dredging does the same-box lower than suction tip and gravity assists the flow and good to go---the ol P-180 has been done over many times and matters much which one ya talkn' about--plastic backplate---hose bib in presure side--metal backed pump housing adaptor. Anywhere from 180 gpm to 240 gpm is close enough. I luv my 5 hp briggs above all others(buy american) but 5.5 rock the house too . In 15' of water with 20' of 4" hose works great --with newest pump design--but t-80 air supply is not good at that depth and requires much bigger reserve tank and mods to it to work properly ,and thats for 1 diver and definately not 2--oops -yet another subject ----tons a au 2 u 2 -John
