Never ever would I have thought what happened, would happen. Late last night, while using my new Tesoro sand shark, (4 months old) on a beach called Singer island here in south florida, I was confronted by 2 males with masks on. They had crazy Halloween masks. They had a knife and asked me to empty my pockets. They took my wallet, metal detector, scoop, iPhone , and even my freaking car keys. Then they told me if I moved at all they would charge at me and cut me "for real" as they said. So they ran off, and I waited like 30 mins. I slowly walked back to where I parked, called my parents at a 7 eleven near by and we filed a report. I honestly think they're going to find these guys. Im checking CL everyday and things like that. It really sucks cause I'm in collage and it was like a side job/hobby I really enjoyed lol. But I'm alright, and that's all that matters. I'll keep you guys updated on whatever happens. For now, no more detecting for me! I can't wait to post there mug shots on here once they get them :P I've got the serial number on that baby written down so soon enough I'll get my detector back!!!! I hope :(

I heard about this! I may have not lost 10 thousand , but for a 20 year old college kid, who lives on his own, it really was crappy. The cops are pretty much telling me the same thing. That there's many other cases and they will keep looking. I know there are a lot of more important things going on but I hope they find my Sand Shark
I run a sand shark also. I hope u get it back. I pray for the momos to get their due justice. It pisses me off every time I read this thread. Freakin scumbags need to walk yhe plank. Sick of momos getting away with this kind of thing. Lawyers dont help the cause. Get arrested get out get arrested get out kill someone get arrested get

What a difference in Fl and my State NJ. Nobody can get a carry permit here. I have a carry permit because I am retired police. But check this out after 30 years on the job, the day I retired I could NO longer carry hollow point bullets. This is what my liberal politicians think up!!!

Wow, crazy story. I hunt pretty much strictly at night. I meet the odd drunk kids partying but never had any issues like that. Things are quite a bit different up here in Canada though.

I'm more concerned about packs of coyotes and cougars where I am.

Why I bring these handsome boys with me every time...

Nice group of dogs, JAD. Most thugs will give you a wide berth and look for easier prey.

I'm 20. After this incident my parents and I are planning on getting me my license.

This is a decision that you and only you should make as you are the one who has to live with the consequences.

Are you willing to take a human life, if/when necessary?

Are you willing to spend the time to develop needed skills to defend yourself and stay proficient?

Have you thought about under what conditions (scenarios) you would use a concealed weapon?
I can easily visualize using it to defend yourself or make a citizen’s arrest if someone tries to rob you.
But what do you do if the robber(s) turn their back(s) on you and start to run away, after you draw your concealed weapon?

I do not expect you to know all the answers, even trained military soldiers and police do not know for sure before stressed. But your answers are good indicators if you should pack and mentally prepare you, if the use of lethal force is necessary.

I am repeating the question "what do you do if the robber(s) try to run away after you have drawn your weapon in self defense?" as I would really, really like to know that answer, myself.

I guess it depends on the law in the state that you reside. In my state you have to be in fear of your life to use deadly force. Someone running away from you would not constitute this and shooting them in the back would be obvious.

You just survive an incident that you will carry for the rest of your life. I make it a point as much as I can to never hunt alone and only in day light with people on the beach. Of course I hunt only in the water where such punks won't venture and I carry a long handled stainless steel scoop. I had a old friend who nearly got mugged on Daytona Beach at day break but he headed for a crowd of people gathered on the Boardwalk and averted a possible crime. I never have both ears covered when I'm hunting. There are two non-lethal ways to protect you from thugs: Inferno Pepper Spray ; Mace ''Pepper Gun'', Black/Blue Color - Impact Guns . Both have videos and can disable any knife wielding thug in his tracks or at least put him on the ground where you can beat them with your shovel. In today's economy where jobs are scarce and many people have reverted to prey on people who have more than themselves. At least you were not harmed physically but the mental will always having you looking over your shoulder.

hunting early a.m. is less dangerous, but still not completely safe...most of the hoodlums and such have a thing about not getting up too early because they're hung over from the night before

Hey everyone, HUGE update. So, no they haven't found those goons, still no luck with anything regarding my belongings. I've already gotten a new iPhone, scoop, (for my old whites PRL-1) , wallet, credit cards, and license. So anyways, today I received such a generous and kind offer by one of our fellow members. R.Danneskjold, asked me if I would want him to send me his Sand Shark to have. WHAT!!!! I was in shock!!! And I still am!!! This has made my holidays so much better. I've been feeling like crap ever since that experience, that feeling where you think you could have done something different and I could still have my SS but it is what it is. I can't believe this is happening. Thank you again so much !! I'll be posting pics with it and some finds as soon as it arrives!

Happy holidays and happy hunting!!!

I would think Sir Gala Clad that you have no way to hold them and shooting them is not a option while they are running away. You would need to file a great description of them with the police so they could be found and sent to where they need to go.

It would have ended much worse for the thugs doing the robbing, see they would have brought a knife to a gun fight....

Under Fl law the use of lethal force would have been completely justified in that situtation, an individual is allowed to use deadly force in self-defense when there is reasonable belief of bodily threat, without an obligation to retreat. Being robbed and threatened with a knife falls under that belief....

I have no symphony for thugs at all.

We will NOT go quitely into the night!

I have absolutely no sympathy for a dammed thug either. That's why I have a CCH license, and I carry, and I will protect myself, ......"A citizen is justified to use deadly force to protect himself, or others, if he is absolutely confident that there is an imminent danger of death, great bodily harm, or sexual assault". ... That is my code, protected by the 2nd Amendment, and the N.C. State CCH Laws.....Don't want to have to use it, but I'm too old to be pushed around, beat on, cut with a knife, or shot, for the amusement of a couple of crack head punks looking for a "fix" at my expense.

That's the way I see it.

Glad your ok young man, God was certainly with you that night.....That is a fact ;-)
