About twenty years ago my fiancee's late husband was given this bayonet and scabbard by a friend who metal detected for relics. The friend told him that he dug it at a Civil War battlefield. When I first saw it I had my doubts, mainly because the blade has very little rust and the wood handle is intact. However, the fact that the blade was encased in the scabbard may explain the lack of serious rust on the blade.

The blade is 15 inches long and the bayonet with the handle is 20 inches. There are no markings on it that I can see.

I am looking for an ID for the piece. Due to the absence of markings, if indeed it is from the Civil War I would assume that it is Confederate, but it very well may not be from that period. Any and all input is welcome.

Reminds me of a Yugoslavia M1924 bayonet. They did "Sanitize" them for export, which would account for being void of markings. If it is a M1924 bayonet, It would fit on a M1924 Mauser, here's a picture of my Yugo M1924 Mauser.

My grandfather was in the British Cavalry in WWI, he had one of these displayed on the wall in his bedroom.
I remember him telling me that he took it from a battlefield in Germany.

I was going to say the same thing. Mauser bayonet. I’ve got an old one, I used it for a long time as a digger.

Thanks for the id and info. Not Civil War but still pretty cool in my book.

likely used by a detectorist as a digger and accidently left behind
