I’ve owned a detector for several years now but have never really had the time or good permissions to find much. Today was the best day of detecting I’ve had and a great way to finish the year.
My friend owns a house in Lawrence, KS built in 1902, supposedly the first house in the world to be built entirely of Sheetrock as the first owner was the son of a gypsum magnate.
It would have been a mansion in those days and could probably still be considered one today.
Got permission and got out at 9 am, and instantly starting getting good targets. Dug four clad quarters, two 1965’s, a ‘66 and a ‘67 within the first five minutes and knew that today would be a good day.
Several clad’s later I dig up this beauty:

My first Indian Head, and even though I scratched the front digging it I was elated. I got excited but made sure to dig more carefully from then on.
Next quality find was this:

A lucky piece from the Chicago World Fair, made from the aluminum of the new trains being built at the time. I thought it was a piece of junk when it popped out it was so light.
Ok so now I’m getting really excited, and dig another first for me:

My first silver dug, and first mercury dime.
I started sending pics and texting my friends who also like to collect and hunt.
Other firsts included was not one, but two buttons:

Any information on them would be awesome...
Also dug my first what I think is either a belt or shoe buckle, and it was my deepest and most interesting sounding signal of the day. Another first!

And when I thought I couldn’t pop any more cherries out pops my first non modern bullet find.

Any info on the bullet would be awesome too... wondering if it could date to Quantrill’s Raid.
Last interesting fine was this

Not exactly sure what it was, looked like a cap to something?
So yah! Amazing day, and I only covered 1/3 of the yard today in 6 hours. Excited to get back and do the rest!
Thanks guys for always posting amazing stuff! I learn so much from this site and am glad I finally found something post worthy!

Great bunch of finds, congrats! Does 1916 Mercury dime have a D mint mark?

Looks like a nice permission. Check the mintmark on that Merc. If it is a d, jackpot!

Doesn’t look like it’s a D but man that would have been sweet if it did!

Nothing like finding a great hunting spot to kick start the addiction those are some good finds I like all RR related stuff I bet theres tons more goodies there. Thanks for sharing. Happy new year Tommy

Great finds!
I once found one of the POD buttons

In 1873, regulations specified that the initials "P.O.D." (for Post Office Department) appear under the rider. Some versions of the button also had the initials "U.S.A." along the top. The vest and cap buttons were smaller and simply had the letters "P.O." raised in the center. ... 3 Uniform buttons, 1893-1970.

Congrats on some great finds. There has been a few of those 1934 Union Pacific tokens showing up lately. I found one myself earlier in the year. I like that '16 Merc.

Welcome to T Net and Congrats on some great finds. You have access to a dynamite spot so go back and work it slowly...

Thanks everyone, I was wondering on the larger button, it’s the state seal of New Jersey - Waterbury Mfg Co.
Who would have worn this button l? It’s about the diameter of a quarter, a fairly large button. Assuming it would have been gilded?

Nice bunch of finds. Looks like you found a suspender clasp. Congrats

Nice finds and Welcome to TreasureNet!
The crown item is a lot like the ones found on crown top perfume bottles from the early 1900’s, as well as some bottles of holy water, and old glasses cleaner, like this:

Nice finds Chris. Due to the presence of a cannelure (the reeding around the ring near the base), your cast bullet dates from no earlier than the 1880's, and from the size I'd guess is from a pistol.

I like the New Jersey state seal staff coat button ..I would venture to guess CW ca 1860'.
Congrats on a great hunt!

Nice finds, I’d lo Be to dig Lawrence Kansas, I actually have 2 ancestors from Missouri who took part in the raid, Richard Kinney and Charles Williamson. I think they were part of Dave Pool’s crew. Anyway, keep at it!!

The pewter crown top is to a German Perfume Bottle.

lol, just noticed you bet me to it!

Congrats on some really nice finds:icon_thumleft: Keep swinging that permission I am betting there is plenty more to find!

Very nice group of finds. I like the Post Office button and the New Jersey button. I just dug one of those Union Pacific tokens on December 24, but mine isn't dated. As mentioned above, your little buckle is a late 1800s suspender clip.
