After yesterday's great barber half find I was going to take a break today but the detecting bug woke me up early and said lets go, and sooooo glad I did. I have found many rings over the years but not any that I can really brag about, till today! Was going to head to my barber lot when on my way there I took a different route about 5 minutes away from it. Passing thru a neighborhood that dates back to the early 1900's when I seen one of the homes had recently been tore down and a empty lot was screaming at me to stop. After a very slow start and a few wheats and a mercury dime later I was thinking, not as good as I thought it was going to be, than bam! A strong 81-82 on my At pro, dug down about 4" when I seen it, still not sure what I had till I picked it up and realized I found my best ring ever. Looks from the style to be from the 1920's, Amethyst and diamonds and is 10k marked. Taking to Jewelers this week for cleaning and appraisal. I am one happy guy.

That is one more gaaaw-just ring. Since it is a ladies ring, I think it would fit my finger! :laughing7: CONGRATULATIONS on finding it and for making the BANNER! Way to go!

Have you thought about contacting the lot owner to see if it was a lost family piece?

I'll challenge Breezie on it being a "ladies" ring (she's probably right) but send the size please. I may be able to help find a home for it.

Great find Ray..... Proud of you and the way you handled it... #1 status. Later.... Brad

What a beautiful ring, I bet the person who lost it was just devastated! :sadsmiley:
I'm really surprised that ring isn't 18K!
What's even more amazing is that it survived beautifully!

Congrats on making the BANNER too!

Wow! What a ride, to read the thread from start to here. I missed your initial post, but let me say Congratulations! My first good diamond ring had me on a high for a month before I finally had the nerve to take it to a jeweler. He offered me $400 for it. The initial sale price was probably $800. I still have it.

There are different types of appraisals-- market value (what someone would probably pay you for it now), replacement value (what it would cost you to buy an identical ring now), and insurance value (enough so that the insurance payout would cover most of the cost to replace it a few years from now, keeping in mind insurance won't pay the full value. The 'insurance value' is inflated so the payout will roughly equal replacement value). You want to be sure you know which kind of appraisal you got.
Again, congratulations! :occasion14:

Thanks BigWaveDave, you were one of the firsts to mention banner. Thank you again and may one of your hunts turn out as happy as mine.

Congrats, I bet if you hold out, you could find a buyer that would pay allot more then your appraisal. Just because that is a very beautiful ring.
