I found a cannon today!!! Well kinda....Anyone have any ideas...I found this at the site of a war of 1812 cantonment where they had an active base of operations going until 1843. I found it directly across the trail from the officers quarters (this building is still standing) I only dug this one signal...my first due to the downpour of rain but after all the research i had to try to find at least 1 signal! In any event it is the coolest thing ive found in a while!

Thats is neat...d2

I wish i could tell if it was a firing cannon....i see the fuse hole but i just dont know...My wife thinks it was a cannon they used to plan out maneuvers... and my dad thinks it was a training cannon...ha ha who knows... the only thing i know for sure is that finding this in the woods at this site and being my first target on this site.(all 120 acres of it).. i do not think it has been hit before. I also have to believe that it is from the era of the camp. What could the chances be that i find a random toy cannon in the woods on a old 1812 camp and have it be from a different time. I am dying to go back....I know where ill be every day for the next week!!! I think this is one of my top 10 favorite finds~

outstanding find! does it have any markings on it?

Outraged - That's an Awesome find. It's all of the out of the ordinary finds that make this hobby intriguing. It's sort of like playing Let's Make a Deal.

damn man for sure one of my very favorite finds

WTG!!!!

Outraged... great find :o . Hard too say what it was used for but a pinnacle find for sure.

It might be what they call a soda bottle cannon.
But the touch hole is in the wrong place for a cannon
small soda bottle signal cannons were used around then.
look on the trunnions(side pieces) for a penny weight
number. Or look on the front of the barrel for a stamping

i agree with konnon6. it could be a signal cannon might also be a desktop peice both civil war era

I think it was a firing decoration office cannon for that day, probably an officers. I have a modern day one I put togeather as a kit. HH

Sure looks like a real firing toy cannon, awesome! Maybe used for planning and operations. Congrats, a cannon like that is on my wish list. HH, Mike
