Older than "Colonial Copper" - UPDATE

On my way up to visit my brother in southern Wisconsin this past Friday, I spent 1-1/2 hours
metal detecting before my hunt was terminated >:( by the high winds and heavy rain. . .

When I found this, my initial thought was that it was a piece of scrap metal but when I saw the
the oxidized-copper patina, wishful thinking entered my mind that this may possibly be related
to the "copper culture" period in the Wisconsin/Michigan area.

I posted this in the "American Indian Artifacts" section of the forum and some members suggest
that this may be a copper celt. . . if it is, this will be my best find ever.

UPDATE:
Yesterday I received confirmation from two archeologists that this is
indeed a copper Celt (cold and/or hot hammered) that was likely made
and/or used sometime between 4,000 BC and 500AD.

Many thanks to everyone for your kind comments and suggestions.
(and yes, I'm still on cloud nine)

Maybe it's from the bronze age ;D Looks to be very primitive in nature. Wonderful find and I'm sure it would look good in a museum, if you would let it go.

Super incredible find!!! Many congratulations are in order. I owe ya a couple of homebrews for that one, Watercolor. :occasion14:

What's more amazing to me is that you knew what it was right away. Like Weasel606's wife, I wouldn't have had a clue as to what it was. :notworthy:

I can't imagine finding something that old. Nice work!!!

Re: Older than "Colonial Copper"

After talking to you tonight and finding out a little more about this " FANTASTIC " find I am still in awe that a find of a life time was found only hours away...

To think that the last person to hold that in their hand could have been some 1500 to 7000 years ago....

BANNER !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
