Went to a TD bank about 25 miles from my house today to dump some dimes, and when the dime bag filled up the attendant was needed to change it. While the machine was open I could see into the half dollar bag, and at least 2 Walking Liberty halves looking back at me.

I told him he had some halves I needed for my collection in the half bag, and can I buy them outright and he "no, they're counted already." So I ask can I swap out half dollar for half dollar, and after he asks the manager they say OK. I go to my car, and sure enough I have no halves with me.

Long story short, I drove 25 miles back home and grabbed $25 in halves (to be safe), and when I got back here was the take:

19 Walking Liberty - (1916, (2) 1917, (3) 1918, 1919, (2) 1920, 1923, 1927, 1928, 1929, 1934, 1935, (3) 1936, 1 unreadable date)
3 - 1964
1 - 1965
2 - 1966

I have been very lucky lately to say the least.

Nice score. Wish my banks would let me do that......Matt

Man you must have bionic eyes! The closest coin counter is about 15' behind from the teller counter. Did you get a speeding ticket? I would of!

I thought that TD banks rejected silver? That's an amazing score!

I was told by a TD employee last week that the machine does not reject silver halves, only dimes and quarters. Not sure about war nickels.

I don't have my book on me but i think the 1916 is a better date. Any mintmark would be below the motto "In God We Trust". The 1929 was only minted in San Fransisco. Congrats!

Nice score  I guess a fellow should always keep a few clad halves handy, just in case!

You may be mistaken. A website I just went to shows:
1929 D - 1,001,200
1929 S - 1,902,000

It looks like CDsNuts got banned for his comment, which is a shame because he is a buddy of mine from Baltimore and he was just having some fun with me. Maybe whoever "told" on him, or whichever mod saw that can reverse his banning.

Or not, whatever.

[mod] ] For someone to come onto this forum and post that kind of filthy remark, joking or not, it will not be tolerated!! He blew it. Perhaps he should have read the rules prior to making his first post! [/mod]

You're right. 1923,1927,1928 and 1933 were only minted in San Fransisco but 1929 was minted in San Fransisco and Denver. My memory is getting worse as i'm getting older. ;D
Also, the 1916(no mintmark) has a mintage of only 608,000 and a 2008 Redbook value of $45 in G-4 The 1916-D has a mintage of 1,014,400 with the same value in G-4. If you're fortunate enough to see a 'S' under "In God We Trust", you've got yourself at least a $100 coin. Again, congrats!

It looks like a 1916 D.

I forgot to add, the 1919 is one of the harder to find years of the series.

Excellent score on those Walkers. Make sure you always keep a few loose halves in your car just in case that happens again. Saves a ton on gas money too!
