ZDD and me in another adventure of Dirt Pounding.

If the first hour was an indication, I would have predicted a skunking. Anyway slowing down to a snail's pace I started to pick a few targets from amonst the iron. Everything was old.

Four pewters all of them have some kind of decoration on them, one is different for sure. It looks to me to have a portrait on it, and some verbage I can't quite make out, I can see what looks like most of a date 176_ ? I don't know anything for sure, but it sure is interesting. Anyone know anything about this one, please say so.

Got another clump of dirt with some spanish silver stuck in it, except for a little rim damage a real nice 1723 2R.

Hail the King of Swing!
Silver linings on a not so cloudy day, like the buttons hope it's something good!

What a fall this year is turning out to have!

Nice finds Rick , congrats .. cheers Mick

Love that Spanish silver, something I just dream about out here in Oregon.

That Spanish silver is Awesome! :notworthy: Such a pretty coin. Is that a counterfeit Spanish silver (cast pewter)?

ya.... wow. Isn't that a sight for sore eyes... gotta love Spanish Silver!!!! I've only ever found one and it was in Massechusetts on a trip back east, I wish there were a few here in the Mid-West!! Congrats!!

Great stuff. That Spanish is sharp and I see the 176? too. Very interesting.

Nice score on the Spanish silvers. What's a good cleaning method for pewter buttons. I usually just lightly dry brush mine. I would to know what your is?

Awesome colonial finds & that silver is sweet! I'm really interested in the button with the writing. Please post a pic when you get it cleaned

Rick you got the button my mould made!

Spanish roll for sure, even popping buttons now!

Just to refresh your memory.

Gorgeous reale , Rick. Keep 'em coming, brother!:notworthy:

BTW... This is a Rev War military. I'm just not sure what regiment yet. 42nd, 80th, 84th... or something else.

HMMMMM Edit: It seems like your bottom button on the right is the same, but has a rim. I might take back what I said, but that pattern is consistant with the British Regiments. Can you clean the one that still round any better?

I still think there's a chance it's military but I have never seen a pewter with a rim like that. Is there an iron shank, or was there. Very strange.

Wow, that is cool, because the one in the lower right corner is the same one, only much better, hardly any flaking, and has a shank.

BTW I think your right about the other coming from your mould, I has a 1R diameter, and looks a lot like a Mexican of those years. This hunt just moved up another notch.

Here's a 42nd button. The similarities are very obvious. The age of your site and the finds is prime for Rev War relics.

Dayam! Great finds...I kicking myself for not getting the time off work!

Thinking a little more.... Over the years I believe I might have seen one or two civilian buttons with a similar pattern. The rim I have to call a Rev War military deal breaker unless you can prove otherwise. I hope you find a good condition one! I would have bet my detector the first one was military until I seen the 2nd! The broken one seems to have some detail and it does not look like a crown, more like a flower. I bet those buttons were an official type, but to what I have no idea.

Bummer :laughing7:.
I will try to get some of the brown stuff off the better one anyway, and add a pic. in the next 1/2 hour. Can't be too disappointed, still a good dig.

That's such a beautiful Spanish ! Very interesting that there was so much faking of coinage with pewter -I see a lot of them on this site .
