ZDD and me in another adventure of Dirt Pounding.

If the first hour was an indication, I would have predicted a skunking. Anyway slowing down to a snail's pace I started to pick a few targets from amonst the iron. Everything was old.

Four pewters all of them have some kind of decoration on them, one is different for sure. It looks to me to have a portrait on it, and some verbage I can't quite make out, I can see what looks like most of a date 176_ ? I don't know anything for sure, but it sure is interesting. Anyone know anything about this one, please say so.

Got another clump of dirt with some spanish silver stuck in it, except for a little rim damage a real nice 1723 2R.

Bummer :laughing7:.
I will try to get some of the brown stuff off the better one anyway, and add a pic. in the next 1/2 hour. Can't be too disappointed, still a good dig.

I'm going to fire a pic off anyway, they are interesting.

Rick if you could only increase your button count a good one will happen! That site is primo for sure for a Rev War military.

AWESOME Spanish Silver and Buttons Rick CONGRATS

Actually the one that is more complete, doesn't have as good detail as the one with much edge loss.
No crown, no number, no military.
but here is a close up.

Nice hunt! The silver is really crisp for sure, and it's still only a dream for me.

It was another awesome hunt Rick. I love the pics of them cleaned up, the silver rocks and to think that possibly that pellar button could have come from IPs mold.....wow, that's mind blowing stuff right there.
I will post up my finds tomorrow when I have cleaned them up a little.
Untill the next time, HH

Sweet finds, love the Spanish silver, and the pewter.

That 1723 2 Reales is sweet! The 1760s piece looks like maybe a counterfeit 1 reale or it may be a button made to look like a coin. Did that one have a shank? Very cool either way. 8-)

Nice, early digs. Congrats on the 2 reale--even with damage, condition is remarkable...

nice finds congrats HH

Absolutely BEAUTIFUL piece of silver and those buttons are fantastic as well - that hunt would go squarely in my 'epic' column. Top notch! Congrats!

WOW, what a beautiful silver reale, of course everything else is too. Congrats!

Man, you guys just keep killing it with all the great finds. Awesome!

Great stuff Rick, can't wait to see what comes out of that site. Like IP said, it is prime for Rev War material.

Killer finds! LOVE the spanish and the spanish real button. Killer stuff. I always preserve pewter buttons with 75/25 mix of Elmer's glue and water. Keeps them from flaking away. In terms of cleaning, I use a wooden skewer, toothpick toward the edges, lightening the pressure as I go, and pray. Oh, and I soak them before I try to clean with the skewer. Wish I knew a better method.

Cheers,

Buck
