This came out of an old canal entrance area from the local river. There's a stone railroad bridge, and this was between 2 of the large stones around the base. Pretty sure it's lead. It's solid, and looks like it's been there for a while. Any thoughts as to what it is, or was used for? I don't even really have a guess.

Interesting. May try the “What is it? Board

I've heard they would pour lead around anchors in stone to fix them in place.

Was it a stone arch bridge by any chance?

It's an old bridge support structure. Straight up, with no arch on any of the supports. It looks like it's limestone, which would make sense considering the area. I'll look and see if I have any pics of the bridge handy

This is the structure, though not the exact "leg" of it. This is looking with the river to my back, down the canal. Hopefully the pic attached correctly.

Thank you everyone for the help, comments, and ideas.
