Well, I went back to the empty lot where I found the 1937 penny. Was hoping to find something even older, but it was not to be. Today I found the following: pennies: 1940; 1062D; 1963; 1966; 1983. I also found a head of a key; a battery terminal; the metal part of a pencil (with eraser); 2 screws; 1 finishing nail; 1 newer pull tab with the lid of the can still attached; and 3 pieces of metal of unknow origin. Not a bad day, for me anyway!

That isn't bad at all at least for me :) --- Just found a 1937 penny myself yesterday -- I was pretty excited about that I am itching to find my first Merc by the time the ground freezes. Keep diggen !!

Thanks for all the kind replies ya'll! For those of you who caught my typo----------very funny!

Maggie - I predict you'll eventually find an older penny. The 1940 was only my second oldest and I've been MDing since January. I'm still a newbie too.

Surfrat - Yup! Still using that pinpointer even though the poor thing is all glued and taped up with electrical tape, it still works!! Love that thing!
