11-9 can someone explain this 18K

got out for a couple of hours today, here are my finds. is there such a thing as a counterfeit ring because I know this isnt gold, yet clearly stamped 18K. did dig a rosie and a couple of cool relics, including a lantern peice dated 1869 and a silver plated bracelet and spoon. also another old dog license. thanks for looking all

Yep, I got two rings that are marke18K but are junk. Crooks back in the day as well. I'm sure it was plated at some time. Mine still have a nice plating to em.

Great digs, pg. That dog tag is an excellent find. Very nice. And I like the lantern piece....don't you love relics stamped with dates, eh?

clearly it was a "fake" ring that was most likely heavy gold plated at one time --which made itt look good -- it was stamped that way to help fool folks into thinking it was "real"

of course its totally illegal to do so.

Yes I can. Back in the 1800's they plated many rings with 18K. You have an old wedding band that used to have gold on it. Nice find.
