This was my oldest coin I found on my trip.117-138 Hadrian Roman Denair which is a silver coin. Also got 8 other inc. a Constantine copper. For a total of 9 Roman coins and 9 hammered. Will post rest in next couple days. Also shown in one pic is a Saxon pendent which is green triangle thing above the coin. It was a brooch but was converted over.I found Roman, Saxon, and medieval coins and items. And of course everything has got to go threw paperwork so I wont get it for months. And I will take better picks when I do.This was a one time trip for me as it is a bit expensive. But hope some day to do it again. Been up for 24+ hours now getting home.(had crappy sleep on plane ride but not sure that counts)My oldest roman coin is about 2,000 years old but fried.

The shortcross looks good & roman silver is not easy to find.

The Saxon item with a hole is a Late Saxon Stirrup Mount, Class A Type 11. Its apex loop broke & they redrilled a hole as a repair. Its a great find. (Not sure who did your ID?)

Not what it looks like, thats what it is....lol Its one of the most common types (not saying common find, just common type) of Anglo-Sandinavian/Anglo-Saxon Stirrup Mounts. They offen broke because they liked form over function, in fact some were thought to have magic protective powers. Sometimes they broken more than once, & another hole was needed further down.

PS. You can't assume the Museum will get it right, & I think you mean the Arts Council Advicers. Not sure of their specialist knowledge, just depends on who you get. In the 1980s they thought they were book mounts.

The Roman Silver may have been one of your target finds, & they are great to get. However, the 11th C Stirrup Mount in my eyes is the find of the trip. If I got 1 a year I would be very happy. Its been years since my last one & Dad & I only have about 5 in total. Thats the one you should be proud of. That fact it broken though a Viking or Saxons heavy footed riding & then was collected again for repair is History. Denarius were minted in there millions.
