🔎 UNIDENTIFIED 12-13KT. 17th/18th Century Gold Button Found.

My detecting partner found this gold button on an early site. He just tested it and it came up as around 13 kt. gold. Can anyone here ID it or has ever seen this type of button before?

It may be pretty old, and there should be another half to it !!

These are obviously different than yours, but you can see similarities in the design, and yours would have had another identical half.

Well....I looked and looked....I saw no examples like it in my narrow searches. Something about the loop and crudeness of its appearance make me think it's old, and special. It reminds me of the 1715 fleet material, and I think it's at least 1700s. But the lack of an example in my searches might mean I'm way off base, and completely wrong ?? Some will know I hope....I defer to better sleuths and experts🤔🤔🤔

Medieval as a description for this type of cast button is mis-leading, they weren't produced until the Tudor period, circa 16th C.
I find plenty of these in copper-alloy, never heard of a gold version, pretty rare if its not a recently cast one, used by reenactors.
