Not much to get a clue from in all that.

The first piece is not an artifact.

And the rest, except for a few scrapers and utilized flakes which had pretty much always been in use, look like debitage to me.

Generic debitage. You need to find some finished points. That is sometimes difficult on a manuf. site. Gary

Like Quito said, I also see a rock, couple flakes with some usage and the rest looks like plain debitage to me as well.

Guess my weight. Go ahead, I'll wait.. :tongue3:

My best guess is sometime centuries ago.......or just yesterday.

blazerdog, I can't speak for the other 124,819 members, but it's pretty much impossible to give a "time frame" of any thing in your pictures. I go along with kingskid's post, centuries ago....or just yesterday. Not saying what you have IS from yesterday, but allow me a short story here. Years ago working somewhere in N. Calif, there was a fella on the crew that as a hobby, would make arrowheads, knapping them the "old traditional way", very cool. Later that day while the crew was parked on a RR siding, me being me, began to wonder around way out there, low and behold a Forest service cop drove up, and of course asked what I was looking for etc., topic of arrowheads came up, not allowed etc, violation of acts etc, and I asked him, "Like this?", (I had one the guy gave me earlier) well....the officer came somewhat unglued, and I had to explain to him about how I happened to have it in my possession, which of course he did not accept, until I brought him up to the tracks, found the fella sitting on a man carrier, making "arrowheads", ( A wonderful moment for me), and I did tell the officer that yes, I'm sure the volcanic glass had some age to it, but the arrowhead? made Yesterday. Point is that in hand, a person handed two points, probably could not give a time period, 1000 years, or yesterday. Your posted pictures? well...looks like chips and chunks of obsidian to me, could be millions of years of age. I'm not being sarcastic, but you seem "ticked" that 124,820 members can't give a time period as to when the chunks became chunks? There are a lot of very sharp and knowledgeable people on T-Net in regards to arrowheads and such, but the pictures really give them nothing to go on I think.

I agree that the first pic looks like just a rock. The rest of them you need to take outside and get better pics in daylight. Most if not all are possible flakes with the possible exception of the first one in the first row of the next to the last pic looks like it had serrated edges. It's difficult to determine a time period on a point without the base.

I agree with everyone else that for the most part you have natural stones and flakes of Obsidian. You do have one Point in picture #7 right below the quarter. It looks serrated and may be a Stockton Leaf type. They are dated around 1,300 to 500 BP.

Why does the internet owe anyone an answer on anything? It has ruined our critical thinking skills while teaching us to want instant gratification. There’s no need to think hard about anything now that we can let the internet give us the “facts.” And everyone gets different facts too

Not sure what your talking about. I had done many, many hours of research before I ever joined this site. this site was basically the last stop of my research, was looking for some conformation on a couple things. Thank god it wasn't the first stop. Your response is so far off ,it actually is funny.

.Thanks for the input. Looks like nobody wins the prize but if you pay attention you can get educated which is better than a prize anyway. When I wasn’t get much response to a time period, I was able to get an appointment with a couple of elders of the Pomeo Indian tribe which has been here for over 11,000 years. They had no problem identifying almost all the pieces as scrapers cutters and small hand axes. They weren’t sure of a time perod just that they were very old. The time period got cleared up when I got home today to the results of the soil sample sent out of the gray dirt band where everything is coming out of about 18 feet below grade. As i suspected it turns out to be ash. The surprise was the ash has the same chemical signature as the ash from the last major volcanic eruption here over 10’000 years ago. Followed by heavy mud flows. Which preserved everything in time. So if your ever fortunate enough to excavate a Paleo site that was covered with ash and mud, at least now you will know what your looking at and be able to give informed information rather than having to guess each others weight. Oh yes,i t turns out the two rock, the red one with the exact patterns on both sides is apparently a mammoth head and the other is an entire mammoth. This information is coming from both science and the direct ancestors of the people who lived here. Once again thanks for the input ( as misguided as it was) Good luck and happy hunting.

Negative on the entire mammoth. You've been misinformed. That rock has not been carved by human hands, it's natural, not artifactual.

I think part of the problem was the way you worded your subject line. Many of us would not have seen the post in "Today's Finds". Therefore your subject line was destined to elicit some degree of sarcasm, if only because the experienced eyes in the "Native American Artifacts" section understood that your pieces could not possibly be dated to an exact time frame. A different subject line on your part would have avoided any sarcasm, I'm pretty certain of that. Your subject line would have been seen as showing impatience and a bit sarcastic itself, if you think about it. Think about it. Read that subject line. Really?

And understand. Those objects cannot be dated based on photos, and not even clear photos at that. So how could you have really expected an answer? Overall, you've gotta do better then that.
