Got out to a local school for around 4 hours today. I did manage a 1963 silver rosie along with a 1975 rosie that is gold colored. Never seen one like it before. I thought I had unearthed my first gold coin for a second there. Also a Susan B Anthony along with a bunch of clad and and a sole 1956 wheatie with some mineralized rock stuck to it, and the usual doodads.

Rudy the bulk of them were recovered with my screwdriver probe. Really rocky soil.
Take care, Mike

The dime may have been lying in the soil next to something eroding, thus toning the coin.

Nice work Mike..if you found the dime in wood chips it wouldn't surprise me, I find coins and other metal objects in tot lots that are yellow..the moisture in the wood reacts to the metal that way sometimes.

I have a solid piece of some kind of metal I found in the wood chips at a school..it turned so yellow that it looks exactly like a gold nugget.

I know whatcha mean about the woodchips discoloring stuff. This rosie was found in regular brownish colored dirt. The other clad ones found near it was the normal dirty clad color. Go figure.

Mike, try rubbing it between your fingers with some baking soda and water. If it comes off than its probably just some normal tarnish, althoug odd colored. If it doesn't come off, than maybe its gold plated or something.

I see you have finally made the honor roll Mike ;D
congrats on that ... oh and all the great finds.
Keep em coming, good luck!

I did try the baking soda earlier today. all it did was clean it up a bit. I think it's plated. The reeding on it is totally covered with this gold stuff too. Unique kind of find.

Interesting on the gold dime then... Maybe it was an experiment in chemistry?

After looking at your picture again, thats a cool monopoly dog. ;D

A lot of coins turn colors as they are heated. I know this only from playing around on the construction site. For instance, a quarter placed on top of a 200,000 BTU propane heater will turn blue, then green, gold, red, etc. Different coins turn different colors but when you remove the heat they stay that color, and it doesn't wash off. Just a thought. Maybe some kids were playing around, could have ended up on a hot engine, you never know.

I agree Dave and think it was a chemistry project for school. My daughter mentioned they did it in class with pennies and different platings. It was found on the school field as well.
Thanks, Mike

Nice treasure Mike!! I found a gold plated Kennedy half while coin roll hunting... That roise is uncommon to see plated..
Ray :D

Cool finds!

I got a gold plated dime from a trade show about 10 years ago. It was being given away as a sample by a plating company.

Good hunt Mike---That is a lot of goodies.

Nice batch of coins you found there Mike. Seems like I read on here somewhere where someone else found one of those gold colored coins, don't remember if it was a dime or not.

Very nice day of hunting,I like both the dimes.
