Found this rarer size Hotchkiss shell near Richmond VA down about 1 and a half feet. It was fully intact. Sent it to be disarmed and thru electrolysis and it turned out great. It is a rarer variety in size. This one is over 4 inch and 15 pounds.

I am curious how much it costs to get something like that defused. Would you mind horribly divulging the cost? If not, I understand.

Thanks for the nice comments. Not sure what they used on it but I sent it to a professional in Richmond to clean and disarm. They drill a hole in bottom and flush out powder

I understand there are experts who can and do disarm them. But....I'm wondering, just how does one "send" a bomb? Just put a stamp on it? (pun intended. :tongue3: )

He lives in Richmond and brought it to someone in Richmond so I would guess he just drove it over himself.

Absolutely correct Pen. Cost was only $50!!

Awesome relic! Thanks for sharing. Great history saved

That's a neat find. Cleaned up great!

Sure looks cleaner! Nice add to your collection, I guess. :dontknow:

But, I have a small question. Just how does one "send" one of these to be disarmed? :dontknow::tongue3:

Originally they sent them to be disarmed through a barrel, but as you can see here sometimes they fail to deliver. :)

Maybe the receiver said, "Return to sender?" :tongue3:

Evidently, he drove it there. Wonder what the headlines might've been? "There's a traffic tie up at such & such. A car blew up taking several surrounding buildings with it." :dontknow:

Nice complete Hotchkiss! Came out nice, congrats

Awesome find.
Great job cleaning it up.
Congrats

I guess that will go in a display case.
I wonder how many are used to hold open a door?
Congratulations on a great save.

Gregg3131, a quick question...who did the work on cleaning and "inert-ing"?

It's was cold harbor metal detectors in Richmond VA that handled the resoration

thanks so much

Thanks
