Well, here in Northern Kentucky, we are about to be overcome by the 17 year cicada.

Just want some of your thoughts on this.

Since these things will be emerging from the ground by the millions within the next month, seems to me that they are a benefit to us detectorists down here since they are "churning up the gournd".

What do you think?!?

Dip them in chocalote and you have a tastey treat. A bit crunchy but still good. :D

With all the "buzzing" going on you might think your headphones were still on your head.

You can get your revenge on them by "deep frying" as many as you can into a delicious snack. Great for when your watching your favorite movie. 8)

Hey, If anyone does jewerly work, you can put them into plaster and burn them out in a burn-out oven, then cast them for jewelry! Cool. Then sell them to the tourists.

Down here in Georgia they told us that last year was their appearance cycle. I love to hear them, especially on warm summer nights. Remember that most people will only experince this cycle 4 times in their lives, and enjoy it, cause you sure can't fight it.

Uh-oh! That's baaaad news, man. I BARELY remember them when I was 2 1/2, beleive it or not. I remember sitting down and pulling their wings out of their precious little bodies! Anyway, I was 19 the next time, and now I'm 36! You mean to tell me I only have one cicada cycle left in me!??!?!

That doesn't bode too well for me. :(

Naaa, I didn't mean it that way! On your 4th Cicada you will be 53, and your 5th puts you at 70. Life Insurance companies are willing to bet you won't see your 6th cycle - all just statistics - nothing personal meant. Your average Joe will only live to see 4 of these cycles. I suppose these critters could turn some coins on edge on their way out of the ground though!

Nothing personal taken! I personally hope that I get to see 6 cycles of them. For other obvious reasons...

How does one be nice to a cicada??? I use them for fishing bait, but I know that hook going through them has got to hurt...
Seriously... we should be respectful to all fellow living creatures!
