That might not just be the first of that type for you, as it might be the first type in general... as it's a struck counterfeit and a pretty rare coin! What is the size in mm? Believe it or not this may be in the range of a banner find, but will have to get an opinion of an advanced collector how few of these turn up. It's a pretty cool find.

Thanks IP. I'm glad you chimed in. I definitely noticed that the numbers on my date are very vertical and square vs. the pictures I saw on the Net shows the dates more italicized and slanted. I just figured there were variations of this coin like there are with so many of the British and Colonial coppers. Looking forward to additional comments from other experts. Unfortunately I don't have the proper tool to measure it in mm's.

Not too worried about the size, but will be asked for when this gets passed along for some thoughts. During George I they counterfeited coppers but cast them, and the cast coins look just like the genuine ones. A much smaller % were struck.

He might just mean diameter across the face MrDigger.

You can get a cheapie metric caliper tool at the big box stores for under $15.

Nice coin!
What area did you find it in--don't have to be specific-just what kind of area?

Diameter doesn't really matter now. It's a halfpenny.

Wow. Good luck with the rarity factor. Yours in in much better condition than the one on eBay.

Nice!
It's a find that's better than a typical George copper; rare and collectable in any condition, a worn regal copper wouldn't get the attention this one deserves

WOW!!!!!! It's funny, I haven't been able to get out so I've been doing some reading on colonial and pre-colonial coppers. As soon as I looked at the pic I knew it was special, and IP verified that. It's not very often we get to use the word "rare" and have it be true in every sense of the word, but yours is definitely rare. Congratulations on a stellar, possibly once in a lifetime find! Vote is going in now :)
