Got out to my friends property and scored these finds in a swampy low area near the homesite. After a few hours of beating the mud and shallows, I got a screamer of a signal that turned out to be the sundial. I cleaned it to give it some eye appeal and will need to find an expert skilled in restoring a piece like this. Thanks for looking!

That's pretty special in my book. Congrats.

i say banner that is a great find in my book

That is absolutely amazing. Insane find and banner in my book. Wowza!

All I can say is WOW!!!

That's one of the nicest things I've seen on here in a long time.
From your photos it appears to have been hand-made, which makes it even more special IMO.
Have you done any research on the name yet?

After some more knowledgeable members chime in on yor recovery, you may find yourself on the Banner8-)

Very cool! Hard to tell from the pics, is it silver or brass? Amazing detail for such an old piece in a swampy area. Congrats!!

Man that is a sweet find! Once in a lifetime. And you also dug a complete open-work shoe buckle AND a whole spectacle buckle. What a site you must be on.

I don't want to wear out the banner button but sometimes great finds come in twos (i.e. the CW belt plate that Steve posted today). My vote is in. Way to go representing us South Carolina boys!

OMG Keith, that sundial is amazing and "overshadows" (get it?) your other nice finds. I'm glad you didn't pass it over as large junk since it give me a chance to make a BANNER NOMINATION :icon_thumleft:

Oh and I would have that restored in a heartbeat if I had found it.

Isn't amazing that this sundial has pushed his other great finds into the background? This sundial is one of the coolest things I've seen in a long, long time.

I must say. That’s one awesome find. Your other finds aren’t bad either. Congrats

Thank you Steve and congratulations on your own stunning find! I will vote you a banner on your plate my friend.

Nice group of finds. Not often you find something that old with a date on it. Most of my colonial coppers and silver dont even have a readable date on it. Lol

One of the more interesting things I've seen here posted in a while. Congrats on a stellar find!!

Totally awesome find. I have been studying sundials and back-staffs and cross-staffs and such. I am awaiting a book from Amazon on how to build all of the early navigation devices. If you duplicated that, I wonder if there could be a market? I'm building a back staff to use at a few treasure sites to see if I can get close to some coordinates I have. I don't want a cross-staff because you had to look at the sun directly with the naked eye! Now what good is a blind navigator I ask you? Any way, congrats on that find. I would love to have a replication of that one.

Wow.
That is one cool find.
Never seen one found that size before.
I would get it restored and frame that proudly.
