✅ SOLVED 1762 Spanish Coat Button

I found two unidentified buttons yesterday They are pewter, 26mm. and dated 1762. Can anyone shed light on this? Any help would really be appreciated. Thanks

Could they be fairly modern coin buttons? It looks like a 1762 VTRAQUE VNUM coin. The original coins were minted in Spain from 1732 to1773.

"Set of 7 GOLD DOUBLOON SPANISH COIN blazer buttons. These buttons are pewter replicas of 2 Escudos gold coins struck circa 1708 under Philip V of Spain in Lima, El Peru. The buttons are beautifully crafted, but both fronts and backs showing a great deal of detail. Based on the quality of the buttons and the rich gold color, I believe they may be gold plated, though it is possible they were simply painted. While there is no visible wear to the gold finish on the backs of the buttons, the pewter shows through around the edges and some of the higher areas on the front. The larger buttons measure about 7/8" in diameter. The 4 smaller measure about 3/4" in diameter."

That's a neat find! I think it is old - 18th century. Here are some like it (scroll down) but I didn't see a 1762 -

They are called fascimile buttons and are colonial, they usually date to the mid-1700s. They were meant to look like Spanish coins in use during the era. Great finds!

Thats exactly where it was from The Hoover Boys. I believe they got themselves some cufflinks with reale designs.

If you search here in the Treasurenet What Is It archives, you will find them. I remember they were on here before. The TN archives is one of the best places to search. But since Marc sold out years ago, I have not been able to utilize the more complicated search features.
