The buckle is 3" long and 2" wide for a 1 1/8" wide belt. It was found at a home and barn site with hand forged nails and tools. This site and ones nearby have buttons and coins from the late 1700s to the mid-1800s. I would be interested in having more information about this buckle from treasurenet members who have experience with them. I have never before found one like it, nor have I found one that is rounded like this one. All my other buckles are flat and smaller.

You found a beautiful Colonial shoe buckle (1770s-1790s). Amazing find!

Whoopee! I am excited! Thank you, Kirk and Iron Patch.

This was found in a hayfield that probably has had minimal cultivation, judging from the artifacts. The soil is neutral silt that preserves copper and brass well.

It's a good sign, and there's probably more keepers to find. You're definitely in a good area to hit a real score.

Nice looking shoe buckle! I think it may be a little earlier, say 1750 - 1770.
