turesearcher, I don't think it was stamped, but rather cast and pressed. It's obviously not from 17776, but that doesn't mean necessarily that it isn't quite old, perhaps a centenial decoration of some kind. What kind of location did you find it in, and especially, how deep compared to other finds that you can positively date? .

I dug it at 2-3 inches from the middle of a driveway. The home was built in the 20's , but there was a earlier house on the site. The picture does not reflect the color or texture very well. It is sorta gray-green, and has a bronze patina in a few areas. I did not clean it very well and there is still some dirt on it.
