1776 Carolus 1/2 III Reale

Well haven't had much time to be out lately, but managed to get in an hour in the recently harvested corn fields before the sun went down.

Boy was it worth it, my third spanish silver to date, and wow is is small and thin. The worn part on the top right of the obverse has me a bit concerned it may be counterfeit, but I think it may just be corrosion from years of fertilizer.

When I saw the date I was estatic, nothing like finding a coin with the date of our independence.

Great coin I think the pealing is from impurities in the metal when it was struck It still happens with clad today. I think it is real.

Thankfully it's only that corner and the rest of the coin seems in good shape, albiet very thin.

Thanks...the whole family is very excited. Very nice offer but I would need wild horses to get my wife away from her doctor. We have all been through a lot together so we are very comfortable with him. In late December we are going to try to get to the NC OBX for a week so I will honk the horn when passing through VA. That is where I plan on finding my 4th Spanish Silver...
