Sorry I didn't put a reference, it is just a bit smaller than an american dime.

Firstly do I have this I'D correct? and is it counterfeit?

the assyer mark seems a bit wrong (but I may be wrong on the ID), and the front seems to have some deterioration at the top. found a 1773 virginia half penny within a stones throw of this coin so the date seems good.

sounds like silver

it is very thin.

thanks for any input.

I'll try to get it weighed tomorrow at work, however judging by how thin it is I'm not sure it will help.
Its a 1/2 reale.
They are very thin and smaller than a US dime.
Its clearly marked R.
I dont see any reason to suspect a counterfeit.

Its not hard to have it tested at any pawn or jewelry shop. If its silver, its reale. :icon_thumleft:

A very nice find, with out doubt Silver wash or Plated, I have had many William shillings with identical flaking, as the one posted :icon_thumleft:

Plated= counterfeit
Silver= reale.

I think we will continue to have differing opinions on this coin. Myself, I see absolutely nothing wrong with the markings or its size and I stand by my opinion.. This 1/2 reale is also very worn on the face and would be down to base metal in more places than one edge IMO, if it was plated. The only sure way to solve this would be to have the metal tested. We cant be 100% certain simply by looking at the pic. Hopefully you will have it tested to see if its plated and let us know the results.
