Hey guys, I have a friend who sent me a picture of this coin to see if I could find out what it is. It looks silver to me although I haven’t seen it in person. He was given the coin and told that it’s very rare. Any help would be appreciated. 6B0644D9-04C2-47EC-BBC7-245E3C19B247.jpegBFECF848-3F0A-4FBE-BEB0-A6DC6397CA1B.jpeg

It's most likely a restrike of an Austrian Thaler. They struck many of them in more recent times than the 1780 date. Only probably worth around its weight in silver.

very cool coin but sorry to inform you that they are not rare. they have been minting them continually since 1741. The 1780 date represents the date Maria Theresa died. I believe production of them finally ceased in the year 2000, although all made since 1780 bears the 'date' of 1780. I have one in my collection that is in uncirculated condition. If you care to read more about it...... https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Maria_Theresa_thaler

A2, when you had one as a kid, did you lose it, just so a metal detector guy in the future could find it???
