I went back to a colonial site for which I had little hope. I was hoping for just a button or a trinket on this dreary Sunday. It took 1.5 hours to do, but I cleared another 20' x 20' section of heavy bramble, and was rewarded with arguably my rarest coin. A 1783 Nova Constelatio!

I believe the variety is a "blunt rays" Crosby 3-C.

Besides some pottery and nails, this beauty was my only find. Funny enough with all the iron this signal was almost completely masked even with the Deus. I actually dug out a big hole and found the coin in the pile. Thanks goodness I didn't smoke it with the shovel. I saw the coin in the clump with rays facing out, and immediately shot a video.

Thanks to Ahab8 for the field ID, and to Bill D for the cleaning tips. And to Novanumismatics.com for the attribution. And to Joey for, well, being Joey.

I'm constantly amazed by what is masked by iron, and what's out of reach because of foliage. It's actually quite a wonderful prospect for the future.

Beautiful coin! How did you clean it?

Toothpick to remove most of the dirt, peroxide on a qtip to remove the residual. It takes patience and took about 1.5 hrs.

What an amazing find, it beautiful condition- Congrats!!

Incredible coin in super nice condition.
Id say the hard work paid off ten-fold.
A+++

Holy moly guacamole Steve!! The condition of that rare coin is amazing-fantastic job of cleaning it. Cold peroxide? My banner vote is in-it's a no-brainer. Congratualations

DEF a BANNER coin there brother!!!!!!!!! CONGRATZ......

Another big congrats Steve on that incredible find, and I guess it was fate after hearing how you found it. I found my first 1600s silver coin pretty much in the same manner. We all need to get lucky once in a while, and today was your day. Great going man!!

That is one helluva nice copper you found there. Congrats! [emoji2][emoji106]

Certainly of the finest examples I've ever seen dug Scrapmeister. Congrats!

Amazing!! The condition is unbelievable!!
You need to hire a crew to do your clearings so you have more time to swing and can cover more ground. Lol

3-C is correct. While not a very rare colonial, you dont very often see a coin of that age come out of the ground in that condition!

You were lucky it cleaned up real good compared to others!

Absolutely fabulous find! I'm so jealous. Not just a Nova, but a beautiful one. Incredible ground find. Nice going Scrappy!

Thanks Glenn. Mostly toothpick, then peroxide applied only with a qtip. I appreciate the banner vote buddy

Thanks Bill. This entire site has been a bit fateful from how I discovered it, to the way I found this coin. And the second part like you said - luck! Yep a whole lot of that. Again thanks for the push I needed to clean this coin. I was apprehensive.
