Tonight after work I decided to take a break from my barn addition and try out a new spot that I got permission to hunt. I got to the field at 5:15 P.M. My first hole was the Connecticut Copper! Second hole was the biggest Dandy button of the two, third hole was the King George II. I hunted untill 6:45 P.M. and you can see my results. This was probably one of my best 1.5 hours of hunting that I have had. The junk to keeper ratio is just the way I like to see it.
The Indian Head Cent is 1881. The piece of brick is a good sign too. I am not really sure what the last item pictured is. It has a small "hook" on one end. Any ideas?
It may be a little while before I get back there but I am quite happy with my "Exploration hunt"!

Nice finds for 1.5 hours of hunting,Thanks for sharing with us!!

EDIT: The thing with the hook kinda looks like an old seam ripper from a sewing kit:dontknow:,but im not positive on that

2 real nice coppers! Don will probably be able to ID the Conn. I've given up on them. (unless I find one:laughing7:). Too many Vars. Georgie looks like a cast CFT. Congrats..........Hogge

You hit the lottery, VPR! What a site. Hunt the area hard and flip the iron out of the way. Those Dandy buttons are beautiful.

Great Coppers And Buttons! Way To Go! :icon_thumleft:

Loving your finds, esp. the CT copper. Want one!

Hi VPR, Nice hunt .... a few mighty fine digs ! Like those dandy buttons . Well done on the Conn copper ! That one is in decent shape and it cleaned up great . George II farthing looks like a counterfeit young head KG from the 1730's . I believe they were that bust profile until 1739 . Great round of colonial fun at that site .. :headbang:

You are right about the number of varieties for Connecticut coppers. I dont think that I want to try either. The odds of me getting it right are very slim:tongue3: Hopefully Don will chime in and give his expert ID:thumbsup:

This site is for sure a lucky one! I was not expecting an early site like this. I was simply going to hunt a field that has a barn on the property that used to be a church. I have only hunted an area =/- 6000 sguare feet of a 6 acre field. And that was a quick, kinda' cherry pickin' hunt:headbang: Wish me luck!!

The dandy buttons are the two best that I have ever dug. They both still have perfect shanks too! I think that you guys have given me an ID in the KG II. I like the fact that it is a counterfeit. It will display next to my Blacksmith Token quite well:headbang:

Way to go on the coppers. They cleaned up great. I'll be waiting to see what variety the Connec is, Don in SJ will be a big help. He did a great job IDing mine i found in the Spring. Awesome job!!!

Super hunt VPR!! You were definitely in the zone during you short time on there. You will have many more enjoyable hours hunting that site. I love those two dandy buttons - nice designs and great condition!

Sure is nice seeing King George's and state coppers being posted. But dang, Conn coppers are HARD, especially the Miller 33 series, which there seems to be a zillion varieties. (just kiddin)

OK, after about an hour of severe eye strain, and finding out the book I have is in error for what I think the attribution is, I will ask for help from hopefully some you who chickened out on this one! :) I THINK(99% sure) it is closest to Miller 33.43-hh.2 currently a Rarity 5+ I believe.

Nice finds , does not get much better when colonial coppers and buttons are found.

You sure are a pro at IDing those coppers. Whats the 5+ rarity mean? Is that rare or common?

I will try to answer for Don and say that the rarity 5+ is something like 35-45 known. Please correct me if I am wrong. Trying to learn as much as I can too:icon_thumright:

The trouble with Conn coppers is a lot of the varieties are Rarity 5 or higher, reason being there were so many varieties made, thus not a lot of an one variety, whereas NJ coppers had a lower number of varieties and if you find a Rarity 5 NJ copper, that is something special.
A Rarity 5+ would be on the high end of Rare, but not Very Rare. I have not looked at a current rarity list for Conn coppers, the sample I posted is from 2006.

Are you aware if it was the only use of those dies for each side, or is that the 1% that remains? When a coin is that close and is the only use of the dies it pretty much has to be it, unless you get extremely lucky and it's a new variety with one side just slightly different. So unique dies for each side, or if you have seen the other dies/coins that are connected and ruled them out, it would be hard to imagine the ID wouldn't be right. There's a lot of CTs but I'm not sure if there would be two coins so incredibly close on each side to fool you.... although some Fugios are damn close to that.
