1787 Ryder 13 Vermont Copper, updated: and 1600's Dutch Duit
got out for a couple of short hunts today. one site produced a crusty '57 flying eagle cent, a fatty '64 IH (i was missing that one in my book), a dateless IH and a coupla buttons.
the other site, a colonial house site, produced a coupla more buttons, this 1787 Vermont copper, and a mystery (not for long around here- thanks, IP!) coin- an 1800 george III farthing-looking affair, but with a shield reverse instead of the seated liberty-type design. diameter is just a hair bigger than a penny, but the coin is much thinner. sounded nickely on the se. i had not found examples of either of these latter coins before, so to have a two-first day leaves me very pleased. pass the genny cream ale.
update 6/3: i was going through my "junk" finds from yesterday's hunt, and found what i must have thought was a button when i was in the field, but now it's looking more like a 1600's dutch coin. posted it today in the 'what is it' forum, and Mackaydon gave me enough evidence to to post it here as a coin. thanks, Don!
one side reads:
GIV
TRA...
16??
the other is more corroded, but i can make out "UTRECHT" along the rim. sweet!
