Went river hunting this afternoon and found only two coins but they were both keepers. Random KG II while exploring for new sites and from the river honey hole, a Mexico first republic 1 real. Pretty sure these were legal tender in US up until 1857 just like the Spanish colonial reales. One of the best coin designs ever in my opinion. Eagle eating a snake perched on a cactus

Love the look of those early 1800s reales, nice patina from the water as well. Now go dig the rest of that tree silver
Thanks. Seems these early Mexico First Republic reales are about as rare a find in the US as Mass silver or at least they are not posted as much anyway. Not saying I would trade one for my cut Mass lol but still a cool find and another part of our nations coinage history.
