Hello All, So I finally got out yesterday for a few hours. Had to go into the city because everything around here is still frozen. In fact everything down there was also..lol. I had a hell of a time digging through the frozen ground. But once I got down passed 5inch it was good.
So my first target was the bag seal, it was down about 8inches, when it popped out i was like cool im not skunked! Then about a half hour later i pooped out the smooth KG. .It was a terrible signal, actually all the signals were bad one's, not one said dig me..Must of been the frozen ground? ?
My next signal was the capped bust..
That was down about the whole size of my leash digger..When it came out i could see the eagle on the back, I was like yea baby!!! Capped bust..It's in bad condition though..Worst silver i ever dug.. but what the hell ill take it..lol.
Also found a Indian and a cool key..
Then my last signal was the NJ copper,
I got this crappy signal that said 10inch,
I dug about a 8inch plug flipped it over and the signal disappeared? ? I was like oh no you dont, it was there in the first place i know its still there.HaHa..
Dug down a few more inches a bam it was there flipped right out of the hole and on the ground. ..I love when that happens..lol...
So all in all i had a fun day, It was sooo nice to get out..Alot of work though trying to get through the ground..
Im posting a link to the bag seal, it seems that there are not to many of these found in the USA..There from the mid 1640s
If anyone has anymore info that would be great..Thanks for looking.
George
Ps..I threw in some dirty pics, for Ahab8, i know he likes dirty pics..lol

Wow! You had a very productive hunt lots of very interesting finds.

Definitely a cool lead seal! Never seen one that big. All of the seals that I've found or seen around here are dime size. That would look great as the centerpiece displayed with other seals. Great Find!

Fantastic token and great finds for this time of year and the work involved! Love the cloth seal, great early relic.

John

back at it again I see.Very nice finds.I have always wanted one of those capped bust, have been looking for one for a long time now.HH vino,

Great looking seal.

Love that cloth seal Vino! I've dug a couple over the years, but they're very hard to come by. And the same goes for bust silver. I've only been able to put 2 of those in my pouch in 20 years. That site seems to have a long span of occupancy, so no telling what might pop up next. Good luck!

Thanks Bill, Thats my first cloth seal, found quite a few bag seals before..
And thats my second capped bust dime..
Same year. Lol..and my daughter found a 1835 half dime in our back yard when we were raking leaves. .Thats what started the great hobby for me..
George

Here you go Don, hope this helps??

I have no clue?? Lol.
Im looking in my Whitman book and can't tell the difference. .Not enough to go on for me..So M 39-a sounds good.

What's not to luv about finding all those keepers in frozen ground . Your either "The ironman of hardcore diggers" or "out of your tree" or both :laughing7: IMHO

1600's the Dutch lead seal stole the show from the coins 8-)

According to my extensive knowledge of local history , those lead relics were lost by Dutch settlers ! lol that's a winner Vino

DAWG

Thanks Dawg..You the man..It happen to come from Old Swedish Church? ?
You know the one??

Very nice finds Vino! The capped bust is so killer, as is the cloth seal. Glad you were able to get out. GL&HH.

Thanks Tom,
Looks as though steve has been sucking up all the silver lately? ?

Very nice day, the dime may be in bad shape but it is still a Capped Bust. I am intrigued by the lead seal, it looks very old for being where you found it (like you explained). It appears that it was worth digging in the freezing ground, perseverance pays off! I would go back there next chance you get.

Coinman123,

Great digs Vino! Persistence paid off with some sweet finds, items there still on my wish list. I'd say you had it tougher than me slopping around in the mud. Big Congrats!!

Wow, what a great group of finds. Wishing you continued success

It was a early Swedish settlement. .
