1838 large cent

Today my historic map research paid once again. Dug this very sharp 1838 large cent. Also a flat button. Thanks for looking

Nice LC. I believe I found the same year but yours is in great shape. What sort of soil was it in?

Wow, Nice large cent, it is in great shape! I found an 1838 large cent earlier this year, but it was not in nearly as good shape as yours is in.

Thank you. It was dug in a sandy mix type soil along a pathway. Soil in this part of South Jersey is very sandy.. but there was some orange gravel mixed. The coin was very crusty when dug It. I have developed different methods for cleaning up certain coins. This one was olive oil soak with light finger polish with the olive oil. It takes time but works well. I use electrolysis for deep pited corrosion. I never "polish" silvers.
