Wow...I don't know much about this stuff yet but thats awesome...I found it about 5 inches down about 100 yards away from the ohio river (i'm from kentucky) and it wasn't anywhere special, just in a field. I did clean it with really hot water and a rag, didn't have no tarnish on it oddly enough. All the other coins I've ever found have been with light wear on them. Thanks for the help guys, guess I'll take it out of the class I had it in with my indian heads and slab it lol...

Uhhhh Ohhhhh....As silly as it sounds, since you dug it out of the ground and all....but next time skip rubbing the coin with a rag because it will leave real fine scratches that take away from the coins value. You can run water over it with a little soap, but no rubbing anything on the coin and NO CHEMICALS!!!

Re: 1841 "O" dime

I agree with Stormtrooper! Use ONLY running water to clean silver coins. Hard running water and AT MOST a LIGHT brushing with a camel's hair make-up brush to gently coax any remaining dirt off. Those fine scratches are your enemy, and they'll impact the value of anything high-grade you find, big-time!

Re: 1841 "O" dime

nice lookin dime. try setting the camera on a table and using the macro function (flower icon) and then prop up the dime in front of it and then use the timer function. this way we get a crystal clear pic with no motion blur. love to see a glamour shot of it.

That is one super fantastic looking dime, what a find!!!!

Congratulations. That truly is a keeper.

It's weird the mintages from the 2007 red book do not match up with the mintages from the 2007 blue book, or the data from coins magazine. Maybe it's a misprint in the red book.
