Detector(s) used
Ctx3030. Xp deus
Primary Interest:
All Treasure Hunting
So I purchased a new detector, The Blisstool V5.. Its said to go really really deep, for a VLF.
The reason for the buy is my old sites I have are starting to dry up.
The only things i have been finding are deep iffy signals.
So i thought i would give this one a try..
Not a everday detector. No screen, no VDI numbers to go by, and only one tone, and scratches for iron.
So glad i bought it!!!
Not that it was really deep or anything but would probably never would of dug it..If I was not listening really close..
Sorry for going on about the detector..
And the good part..
I was just about to go, it was so hot today. I already found a 1865 IH.
A flat button a musket ball. ( the musket ball was crazy deep.
12 or so inches down)
And i said just one more descent find and im leaving. .
Boy I am so glad i said that!!!!
I flip the plug and I see this gold edge. .I almost pooped myself. .lol
I grab my phone and take a pic..
Then I knocked a little dirt off and all i see is 1849..I stand up and started to do a dance..SAYING I FOUND A GOLD COIN..I FOUND A GOLD COIN. OHHHH YEAAAA..LOL.
Now I dont want to rub it so i grab a hand full of the dirt and put it in my film canister. .Shut my detector off and head straight to the truck..
My heart was pounding out of my chest..Called my wife, I new she was in class teaching, but hey!!!! I just found a gold coin!!! Lol
She told great honey now can i go back to work??? Ok i said..lol
So I got home and ran it under water .Wow dirt just fall off..
After a little bit of research.
I found out it is a coin token from the hold rush era..The first year made..
In my eyes I think that is so much cooler then a $1 dollar coin that I thought it was..
Sorry for the long winded post..
But as you see, Iam pretty excited about this find..
Thanks for looking. .
George

Wow George - it didn't take long for your most recent investment to pay off. Sounds like you've already figured out how to use that new machine. Very cool and unique find. I've never even heard of a gold token like that, much less dug one. Hope your research proves you've got the real deal there. I'm definitely pulling for ya. BTW - did you get those sifter pics I sent the other day? Good luck when you return to that increasingly interesting site.

Thanks Bill for the pics and encouragement. .
Yes i did get the photos.
Plan on making it this weekend.
I would sure rather be using yours though with you...lol

Ok Im not a great photographer. .
But i definitely know what a gold coin looks and feels like..
I just took better pics..
Hope this clears this issue up, about being plated..

Does look better. And if you feel the weight then it has to be looking good... because there is quite a difference when you hold a gold coin. Maybe it is struck, just was a sloppy made die because it's a token. I'm sure it will be easy enough to figure out, just something I know nothing about.... but does look better, so I guess we'll see!

Vino , What is up with you lately ? You are "en fuego " Amigo ! - T-net is going to have to start a separate Banner just for your finds !
is this thing the real deal or a knock off ?

The original ones were made post 1900 and sold as souvenirs. They're making copies of everything in China right now. As far as I'm concerned the guys hyping them on the internet are a bunch of scammers. I'd love to see it tested by a jeweler.

Well if it was made in china, it had to of been a long, lond time ago.
Because I found a 1865 Indian head right next to it at the same depth. Lol
George

Great find! Congratulations :icon_thumleft:

I think I need a day off work. You are on a roll. Can't wait to see why is next. Congrats Vino keep us updated

That is really, really cool!! Super awesome find!! Congrats

VERY cool find! Huge congrats to you. That coin will show much better as a rare, gold token than as any ordinary gold coin. :-D

I have heard of bullets being dug at 18" with that machine. Banner for sure!

the depth ya found it at should be confirmation enough!

A lot stranger things have happened! But that certainly does not hurt. I'd like to know how the weight compares to a genuine one. The scale usually sorts these things out fairly quick, at least eliminates the bad ones right away.

A loupe, scale and digital calipers should be part of every hobbyists tool set. You may not always prove what a find is, but you prove what it is not at least. Process of elimination and then law of probability lol.

I think Vino needs a finds polygraph to hook up his coins and buttons to after each hunt. :)
