Hi All,

I had a decent hunt the other day, some nice variety of finds were to be had. It was an 1820's house were I hunted at. The 1856 Large Cent is in decent shape. Some of the other finds I didn't get a real good chance to clean them up. I do like the lid thing, not sure what it goes to but it actually opened up right after I dug it. The Samson US Lock was a nice find although not that old. Over all not a bad day of digging. Thanks for looking.

The piece with the ball and scroll belong to an 1800s andiron a lot of people find these with missing parts and think it is a civil war training spur.vanzutphen

That does not look to be an 1856 large cent, but rather most likely an 1836 large cent. In 1856 the had the braided hair large cents, where as your style of large cent is the modified matron head large cent made from 1835-1838. Also in 1856 the letters of "One Cent" were bigger on the back, which your are not, go with a wet Q-tip around the date to see if you can see it better, in the photo I can see 1836.

Really cool finds, I like the lock and Large Cent.

Look how huge the date is in 1856, where as your date is smaller.

Actually Coinman when I dug it up I thought it was a 1836 Largie, but when cleaned up and looked at the pictures it didn't look like 1836 to me anymore. That is one of the things that suck about getting older the old eyes can fool you! But I can still spot a beautiful woman, so it is all still good :laughing7:
