We got out for a 2 hr. hunt back at the house / camp site. I had dug a few buttons, they are in bad shape but there cool. I thought the coin was a wheat back, man was I off. This I think is in very good shape, a 1857 Flying Eagle was in my bag. Back a home I was going to toss it in my jar I took one look at it, and nope it's going in a sleeve of it on. When I'm digging I'll kinda look at stuff, but most will go right to the bag, so I have to get home to see what I have. It's all ways cool for me to do that, it's like a new hunt at home, and keeps me digging. Thanks for the look. HH....

Congrats! That's in great shape! I've found an 1857 as well but in much worse shape. Is this your first?

Excellent find! I love finding those! Such a surprise coin!

But, about your having that little 2nd hunt at home? I wouldn't suggest it, it's too easy to forget where in the field something was found. Could be a strong indicator of an area worthy of strong gridding. Now, I don't mean start cleaning everything in the field. But, it's worth the effort to at least take note of where an item that can't be readily identified was dug.

I'm sure you do this, G2D. Just for reference to those newer hunters who are still learning.

That is a great coin, I love getting a surprise find at home that you didn't realize you had.

Yep, I enjoy a surprise as well as the next. But, I don't enjoy that feeling one gets when one of the zincolns turns out to be a Flying Eagle and I have no clue where it came up at. ;)

I agree, it would be nice to be able to hunt that exact spot for anything else from that time period. Here in Montana if you find anything from the 1800's you better mark the spot.

That is so Cool !!! I'm a Year Old this month at M.D.-ing So This is the First time I have ever seen one of these ... :notworthy:

Great coin ! Rather rare to find them as nice as that (not corroded )

Nice hard-to-find coin! they were only minted for a few years so you should be very happy with this one.

Damn!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Congrats on that Find man!...I would blow a gasket finding something like that!!..its a Beauty!

That Flying Eagle is in great shape.

WOW that flying eagle is in great shape congrats to ya...

Agreed with everyone on the fact that it's in awesome shape- congrats! The one I found was so corroded that I could barely make out the eagle, never mind the date!

I have put my "junk" finds, in a big bin. Sometimes, I might look though that bin, and find an unexpected antique.

Nice find, conratulations
