What makes you think its a cap gun ? Just looking at it I thought percussion cap boot pistol. 1850s t0 60s. But I'm no expert. Nice recovery.

Looks like a .22 boot gun to me. So many variations of this style pistol they are hard to identify. The lower one in this pic is "similar", but not exactly it. Gary

I don't know much about firearms but given that it was found in a mining camp and the similarity to the real thing... I'd say you have the real thing! Which makes it a pretty stellar find!

And with some electrolysis and advice from experts I think you could end up with a really nice relic to display!

Its definitely not a real gun. Its cast in two halfs split down the middle.

It is a "Bang Snap" .. with an unknown maker and dates to 1900.

The telltale signs used for ID were the stipples on the handle, the circle, and the letters on the handle that say BANG. Also, the hole in the handle which is original to manufacture.

By the way, that toy gun carries a 5 star rarity rating which indicates that your cap gun is "extremely rare"

I don't know if cap guns ever make the banner, but based on rarity alone, this on would certainly qualify! My vote is in!

The chances of ever seeing another one posted is somewhere between slim and none! SUPER FIND!

Nice!!! Congrats!!!

Definitely a boot pistol cap gun :laughing7:
And if Creskol say it's ultra rare, believe him! He knows his cap guns

Awesome relic, congrats! :icon_thumleft:

Creskol, what is a banner?

I wanted it to be real! After reading the comments it sounds like you still made a great find!

From the good ol days when they made cap guns look like the real thing.

I collect guns and would have to say from the photo its more likely to be a real gun. They didnt really give kids toy guns back then or were mass produced. Youngsters got the real thing as young teens, Thats a special find. Congrats either way !

Actually, cast iron cap guns made their debut early in the 1860's.
