1890's U.S. Registered Mail "Counter" Padlock
While checking a local park known for its occasional gifting of Civil War relics, I found this little beauty. It was in the lawn between the old asphalt street and the sidewalk. It appears to be Victorian period and is solid brass, with a seven digit registered number on the reverse. This interesting lock has a glass window with a rotating counter inside along one side. My lock is too cloudy to read the counter, however, the large section of the shackle still swivels freely and clicks the counter inside. Not CW but I am glad to have it! Thanks for looking, and Happy Hunting. Sub
