I thought for sure this time I had a silver dollar, but turned out to be a commemorative token made for Prime Minister Wilfred Laurier. Anyone know about these tokens? I know that it's old, just not sure if they were made in 1896 or a few yrs later.
The Laurier token is one of a series showing Canadian Prime Ministers with the date being the year they were elected. These were given away with a fill-up at gas stations in the 1970s. They were "gilded", but the "gilding wore off very quickly, showing the grey base metal underneath. There was a similar series of Canadian provinces tokens, with the date on each being the year the province entered Canadian confederation.
