Quite possibly one of my best finds. I found this at an antique store for $20. I had never found anything at this store before but as I was peering through one of the cases amongst all of the silver and gold filled jewelry I saw this extreme yellow color. It stood out completely so I had to look at it. As I looked it over I saw some strange foreign marks and it was quite heavy. For $20 I was obviously going to buy it. Turns out the entire piece is 18k with French horse head markings. Used from 1838-1919. I assume my piece is from the early 1900s. The chain and hook weigh 13 grams. The cutter weighs a lot more but due to having the cutting mechanism, so I guess there is a few more grams of gold there. The initials on the cutter match the name on the loop. Very very good condition as well! He obviously cherished this piece quite a bit. Extremely proud of this piece! Unfortunately the makers mark on the cutter is to me unreadable. However maybe the name on the steel piece is the maker? P Clox?

Great find!

Super great score.

Well done.

Absolutely awesome find. Bravo!

Wow, awesome find.

Excellent. One of my French gold scores were some cufflinks that had the itty bitty hallmarks. They were something like $3.99 and I sold them for over $600. Great encounter Spartcom. I wonder how many looked at this and were underwear of what sits before them?

That’s a real nice piece. Great score. Congrats

Congratulations on a hall of fame find! Killer! It probably also held a pocket watch

Way ta go. Nice buy. I like that.

Wow! That's one of the coolest pieces I've seen on here. Love it.

Beautiful piece, congratulations! :occasion14:

That is a fantastic find. A once in a lifetime kind of item I would think. Well done!

Thanks a ton guys. I recently posted this on a jewelry forum and the lovely people there picked this apart so I have more Info. The "horse head" markings are acutally Morocco markings and the cutter part has French markings. This is a common thing to see on pieces like this apparently. Given this it was made no earlier than 1920. The maker of the cutter is Eloi Pernet a French maker who is no longer in business. Here are the markings that were indentified. All in all I suspect there to be atleast 17 grams of 18kt because all together not reducing any weight for the cutting mechanism it is 22 grams. I am still amazed I was able to find this piece, makes me wonder as others have said how many people saw this before me? Maybe it was there when I was there before and I never saw it? Who knows!

Morocco mark for small gold items as seen on the clip and chain.

French mark for gold as well as seen only on the cutter next to the maker's mark.

I need to find a good jewelry forum for a few pieces I need to find out more about?

I thought it was a dog or jackal head! The French usually mark 18k gold with the eagles head, I haven't seen a boars head and eagles head together like that (Something else I will look out for). Super score!

Spartcom you are killing it!
