Found on a 17-18th centuries site, but may be more recent. Have you ever see a ring like this one? The «diamond» glow purple under a UV light. I'm looking for a clue that would help me to date the ring. Thank you!

No clues but that's a very cool ring you must be thrilled

I can only chime in w/ a:occasion14: nice ring!

Do you have a diamond tester ? The ring could be silver with diamond in it! I found
one!

I am with embrym on that one. Anxious to hear more. Get that puppy tested and let us know.

Its likely not a real diamond, but it could be. You should have it tested at a jeweler !

Keep @ it and HH! :hello2:

Great find! Thanks for sharing...

To me, it has a art deco look, early 1900s.

What makes you think it's brass?

purple glow is a reflection of the light. the color must change, i.e. to green, yellow, red, blue, etc., for it to be flourescing. If it fluoresces its a diamond, if it does not then it may or may not be a diamond.

Have you looked in the band for any markings? It looks to me like it could be very tarnished silver. I would try some baking soda paste to see if it lightens up at all. If it was brass it should turn more yellow rather than the lighter grey of silver. It's a beauty though regardless of metal.

is the stone set or is it glued in - from pic it looks glued

There's no marks in the band, but there's some little yellow spots. That's why I though it was made in brass and that the original color was yellow. But I'm not an expert, I could definitely be wrong.

CASPER-2, the stone is not glued, it is kept in place by a circular «sheet» of metal with 4 very small nails in the corners (you can see it on the third picture).

More than 150 musket balls from the 18th century were found only some meters away from the ring. Was there already some kind of fake diamonds in that time?

They used leaded glass (rhinestone) in the 1700s , you should see bubbles with a loupe! IMO late 1800s early 19's yes, mossianite and cubic zirconium where in use

I was surprised when I tested the small stones in a clearly marked 925 silver ring and they were diamonds!
I thought Murphy was pulling my chain on that one!

A gold ring with a diamond "in it" is high on my wish list, and so far it's avoiding me like the plague!

I wonder if your ring is heavily encrusted gold? Hope yours is the real deal!

It's really strange that it is so coal black? Even my worst crusted silver ring had a lil grey ,

Def, a different one.
