My father and I went out last night for the third night in a row to hunt a field that we had high hopes for. There used to be a fairground in the late 1800's on the property and we thought we would score a lot of old coins. It didn't happen though. The first evening we were there we found an 1890 Indian Head penny which got our hopes up but then we never found anything but iron farm debris for the next two nights. Discouraged we went to another site at a local school I had been eyeballing to try to find something....anything! Well, it worked out because in the hour or so that we were there we found a nice sterling silver medal about the size of a half dollar. It's from the Hume School which a quick Google search tells me is in Arlington Va. Not sure how it made it's way up north but I'm glad it did. The back is inscribed "Elocution - Won by Cyril Hume". I find it odd that it was won by a person named Hume who went to the Hume school!
We also picked up a hefty Sterling silver bangle bracelet that I haven't cleaned up yet. It really picked our spirits up after finding nothing for two days.
